Volume 2: Marvel Knights 2099

In 2004, Marvel released five one-shot comics under the banner Marvel Knights 2099. These included Black Panther 2099, Daredevil 2099, Inhumans 2099, Mutant 2099, and Punisher 2099 (unrelated to the original Punisher 2099).

Though set in the year 2099, this was an entirely different world than the original 2099 universe. In this 2099, the Mutant Registration Act was passed and every child is tested for mutant genes at birth. Mutants resisted the law, and the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and other heroes eventually joined them in their opposition to the government.

Quote: "It all culminated with a final battle in front of the Baxter Building. They lost. Those who weren't killed were either imprisoned or went into hiding."

The nation now has a definite dystopic vibe: a curfew is in place for citizens, and Sentinels patrol the streets looking for lawbreakers.

The comics were all written by Robert Kirkman with a different art team on each book. While I generally enjoy Kirkman's writing, these were...not his best work. I'll just leave it at that. Read the comics and decide for yourself.
